Welcome Letter

7/28/2010 7:54:00 AM Welcome to the KTB homerooms!...

My name is Mrs. Bruhn and this is my 2nd year teaching at Prairie Creek, 6th year at College Community, and 13th year of teaching. I am the oldest of five children and grew up on a farm in Osage, Iowa. We raised cattle, pigs, and my sister had sheep as a FFA project. As a family we were very active in 4-H and school activities. I have even detasseled corn! David, my husband, and I met while I went to UNI. He grew up in New Hartford, IA. We moved to Overland Park, Kansas and lived there for 7 years. I taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. I even taught cooking and computers during Summer School. I went to more classes to earn my Masters Degree and then became Nationally Board Certified.

After my sons were born we decided to move back to Iowa. I spent some time home with them, and I am very excited to be teaching again. Brandon and Kevin are also attending College Community. Brandon will be in 7th and Kevin is in 5th grade.

After school if I’m not on the soccer field watching my sons, you can probably find me reading, fishing with my family at Lake McBride, gardening or quilting. Reading has a special place in my heart. I love to read, in fact, I devour books!  I can’t wait to share my books with you in the classroom. Please share your favorite books with me because I am always looking for a good book to read.

See you soon,

Mrs. Bruhn

Dear Fifth Grade Parents/Guardians and Students,

My name is Mrs. Kinsey-Thomas, and this is my second year teaching at Prairie Creek, third year teaching at College Community, and my ninth year of teaching. I am the oldest of three children and grew up in Clinton, Iowa. I lived next door to my grandparents, so I have many fond memories of the two of them growing up.  My husband Brian and I have been married for five years.  He also grew up in Clinton, but we did not start dating until he was out of college.  J Upon graduating from college I earned a BA in Elementary Education K-6 with endorsements in Reading and English/Language Arts.  I am excited to be teaching social studies and literacy again this year.

This summer we are planning a trip to Galena, Illinois, and hope to spend as much time outside as possible grilling, spending time with friends and family, sitting around the campfire, and just relaxing.  I also plan to take a few classes over the summer to continue to grow professionally in the areas of literacy and social studies.  I also can’t wait to catch up on some reading.

When I am outside of school I enjoy reading, photography, doing some scrap booking, being outside, spending time with family and friends, walking with our dog Precious and working with my flowers to keep them bright and healthy.  Reading is my favorite pastime and subject to teach, so I hope to enjoy conversations about books with my students throughout the year.

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Mrs. Kinsey-Thomas
